Apple Cinnamon Muddy Buddies

Here is a recipe that has been sitting in my camera for months now.  I was getting ready to edit pictures of sausage balls for you guys when I came across this delicious sweet treat that was mostly made by Sweet Girl.  Actually, now that I think about it, the sausage balls were made by the same Sweet Girl.

When I saw Wine & Glue’s recipe for Apple Pie Muddy Buddies with Streusal Topping  back in September, I knew these needed to be made ASAP.  I had just made some fresh Apple Butter with the apples from one of our two apple trees and I was looking for different ways to use it.  The reason I named mine Apple Cinnamon Muddy Buddies was because I basically forgot all about the streusal topping when I made this.  I can’t even explain how that happened but it did.  Next time I will be adding that streusal to this great treat.  For the recipe with the topping be sure to check out Wine & Glue. These were great without the topping too!

The combination of white chocolate with the apple butter, cinnamon and vanilla added great fall or anytime flavors to this sweet and irresistible snack….enjoy!!!

recipe from Wine & Glue
1/3 cup apple butter
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups white chocolate chips
2 tablespoons butter
8 cups Chex cereal
2 cups powdered sugar

Heat the apple butter in a small sauce pan over low heat for about five minutes or until some moisture evaporates and the butter begins to thicken a bit.
Remove the pan from the heat and add the cinnamon and vanilla stir until combined.  Pour in the white chocolate chips and return to the low heat, stirring constantly until the chips melt.
Add the butter and continue stirring until melted.
Pour this mixture over the Chex cereal in a large bowl.  Carefully mix until the cereal is evenly coated.
While it is still hot,sprinkle the powdered sugar a little bit at a time until the cereal is covered.  Allow mixture to cool in a single layer on two cookie sheets.
